This sums up the production perfectly. Where I (dare to) disagree with you is in the performance of Mr Gillen. Playing the king for knockabout laffs strips the character of any sense of menace or power. One simply cannot believe that anyone on stage lives in fear of Henry, his wrath, his vengeance, his mercurial changes of desire. This in turns deprives the action of credible motivationor tension.
On a separate note, I applaud your suggestion of “All Is True – The Musical” and would certainly pay to see more of Memon and Dawson’s work. Could we get them to take a crack at ‘Cardenio’?
