Shylock’s speech took me many tedious months to memorize the coloquilism from a bygone era in the 9th grade – 42 years ago. It has never left my brain…and has served me no useful purpose to this day. Once I quoted a line from it – in context of a conversation – and the person I was speaking with looked at me as though I had two heads. I felt foolish for knowing it.
