I have aways wondered what’ Alas poor Yorick actually meant. Now I know. alas for all of us who will pass the same way. We learn morals, manners, survival skills but even after gleaning all these skills, we will become Yorick.

I am thrilled to find your website. I have loved and been intrigued by our wonderful
Shakespeare ever since my high school senior year 50+ years ago when my teacher, Mr. Eberhart, read Hamlet, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice and other plays to us as we sat spellbound. Yes! Even the “hood” in his rolled up white t-shirt, duck tail hair style and cuffed jeans was mesmerized. Thanks you. What a fun way to delve into English literature. And how sad for those who were so turned off by a boring teacher who made students read all those old English words without a clue what they meant, turning them completely off to the best of literature! Hats off to you, Mr. Eberthart, and God Bless your soul.

I am enjoying your site, these past few minutes. I came to find one particular quote, but I’ve found this, and several of your other translations of well-known speeches, to be delightful. You must hear this all the time, but I really wish we’d had such things when I was in school! Maybe I would have actually read some of the plays… (:(
