Hello. It’s one of those things / sayings that circulates around the language, with almost no one really knowing hardly anything “Real” about it. Thank’s for clearing that up. It’s surprising how often it’s misquoted, or, maybe not surprising at all, depending on your level of cynicism. (Mine is very high.)

Exceedingly fascinating and quite interesting. Incidentally, the beginning lines of one of my online poems on poetry.com entitled “The Immeasurable Measure of Alchemical Measure” opens up and closes with a rhyming couplet of alliteration that was influenced by the three witches chant in Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth.’ My eternal gratitude to the Bard of Avon.

Thank you for the detailed information. When I first heard the witches’ chant, I was younger and it seemed easier to remember… but not to understand. I appreciate your clarity.
